Who knew? Yes, who knew, even ten years ago, what wonderful wine could be made from the maligned Grenache grape? For a very long time Grenache was a pariah on the local wine scene, good enough for fortified production and overly sweet, high octane red wines, only. Growers were being paid to grub it up, and producers wouldn’t put the name, “Grenache” on the label. Then the penny dropped - winemakers started picking the fruit earlier and treating the must much more carefully. The result - some of the best damned value for money red wine on the planet!
